I'm Santana. Basically, I'm better than you. Oh, and mess with my girl Britt and you'll be sorry.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Brittany lay there, head against Santana’s chest, and listened to everything she said. Perfect? No. I’m not. Look at me. I’m a mess. You’re helping me through that. All of it. She trusts me, because you make me happy. You make me smile. You make me… Me. As Santana kept speaking, Brittany looked up towards her face, gazing lovingly at her girlfriend. When Santana sat them both up, Brittany smiled, leaning in to place a small kiss on her girlfriends lips, and then groaned along with Santana as the bell rang for class. When Brittany stood, taking Santana’s hand, and was met with a tight embrace as she got to her feet. “Umm. I think we have like english or something..” Brittany said as they walked back towards the lockers, pinky linked like always. “Friday night, if you’re.. If you’re sure about it, maybe would be cool. I mean, we can’t on Saturday…” Brittany giggled, winking at Santana, who in turn, winked back at her, a smirk on her face, nodding in agreement. I know it’s huge, I mean, I half didn’t expect you to say yes to it.. Part of me was saying no to me.. But they really would appreciate this..
Once the girls reached their lockers, and dug out their books for English, Brittany smiled at Santana, hoping the look showed that she understood and knew that no matter what, side by side, they would be okay, together, and could get through anything. The girls linked pinkies, and headed into class, taking up their usual seats at the back. Neither girl paid attention, and Brittany wrote Santana a note, sliding to her in the usual cheeky and sneaky fashion, ‘Hey, think we could just ditch last classes? Get a head start with the stocking up on candy. It’d give us more time to do it and stuff and not have to rush before Q gets to yours.. Plus i can’t remember what class we have after lunch.. I’m sure it’s boring.. And no practice tonight.. whattya say? Brittssss :P xo’ Before passing the note, however, Brittany quickly added, ‘P.s - You’re not a screw up. Not at all. Remember that okay <3’
The girls walked to their lockers, and Santana nodded absent mindedly at Brittany as she asked about friday night. She was still lost in her own thoughts, but was snapped out of them when Brittany mentioned saturday, before giggling and winking at Santana, as she reciprocated. Santana thought to herself that the dinner they were planning would definitely be difficult to proceed with, but she felt as though it was the right thing to do - and if it went wrong, well, the girls had saturday night to take their mind off of things. The girls reached their lockers and got out their english books. Santana smiled back at Brittany, acknowledging the hidden meaning behind those lips. I know we’ll be okay. We have to. They linked pinkies as usual, and headed to class, taking their usual seats down the back of the room. Santana was far from listening to the class, casually leering to the wall as her mind replayed moments of her and Brittany together. She looked over to Brittany and saw her slide her a note, which she quickly opened. Good idea… oh. Not a screw up?…Britt… Santana wanted to cry in that moment; reading such simple words from Brittany, it made her heart explode. All she could muster up in response was a small smile and nod in Brittany’s direction, hoping she wouldn’t catch on to her nervousness.
Once the bell rang, the girls stood up and Santana turned to Brittany. “Take my books back to my locker, and I’ll meet you out front okay? I’ll talk to Coach and tell her we have to leave for the rest of the day.” Santana did have hidden motives to her plan, but was pretty sure Brittany didn’t catch any of it. Brittany nodded and headed off to their lockers, as Santana made her way to Coach Sylvester’s office. She knocked and entered, to find Coach look up slowly. “Ah, Sandbags! What can I do for you?” Santana repressed rolling her eyes at the nickname. “Hey Coach. Britt’s is kinda freaking out about the new routine we’re working on, do you think we could have the rest of the day off so we can go practice? You know how she gets when she stresses about dancing or cheerleading…” “Hmm. Sure thing. Just make sure it’s perfected by next practice. Now leave.” Santana smiled in thanks, and exited the office, now making her way down the corridor. Knocking and entering, Santana looked up. “Santana! Beautiful girl, if only I was your age… Anyway, what can I do for you?” Santana closed the door and turned back around. “Hey, Miss H. Was just wondering if you’re still cool to help me out the song for Brittany tomorrow?” Miss Holiday smiled coyly, nodding. “Of course! I’m sure she’ll love it. I even brought that special thing you asked for, so the magic will be even more perfect.” Santana sighed in relief, thankful to her favourite teacher. “Awesome. Thanks heaps, Miss H. I’ll see you tomorrow.” “Bye Santana!” Santana turned and walked back out, making her way to the front of the school to meet Brittany.
Spotting her and quickly glancing around to make sure no one was watching, Santana skipped up behind Brittany and hugged her from behind, placing a small kiss on her cheek. “Ready to go?” Brittany nodded, and the girls linked pinkies as they began walking back. “Did you want to drop our bags off at home first, then walk down to the store? It’s only a few minutes away, and beats dragging around our bags and we can get changed too.” Brittany nodded in agreement, and the girls continued their walk. Tonight’s going to be amazing. Fuck, I miss Quinn so much…
Brittany hated swearing, and only did so when it was appropriate, and thought it was okay at the right time when others said it. But when Santana swore, it scared her a little. The tone she used. Brittany’s body stiffened up, only relaxing slightly, but keeping her eyes glued to the ground as Santana spoke, tears slowly dripping from her eyes. I love you too. And you won’t screw up. I believe that. You’re the only person in this whole world I trust with my life. And mummy does too. You’re.. You’re the one I’m going to be with for the rest of my life. Please don’t think you could hurt me. I could hurt you, by being stupid or something.. Brittany felt Santana lift her head up, and she didn’t know how to think about it all quite at that second, so she attempted to keep her face as neutral as possible, at least until her own thoughts had processed somewhat. Brittany shut her eyes as Santana kissed away all her tears, and pulled her into a tight hug, kissing her face and neck. You care so much. You have so much love and I am so lucky.. No don’t you cry.. Brittany reached up, gently wiping away Santana’s tears.
After what seemed like forever of staring into each others eyes, attempting to figure out each others thoughts, Santana broke the silence. Think of something to say Brittany. Anything. Go just speak. Really, the love of your damn life is scared.. Not even sure of what she was going to say or how to say it, Brittany just spoke, “I.. Please don’t be scared or anything. It.. The fact that you care so much, and.. You love me so much.. It just.. It makes me feel so special.. And I’m sc-scared San, scared of hurting you. Saying something stupid. I don’t know. But all I know is that.. That you’ll always be there, nobody is perfect. I.. I know we both.. We’re scared.. And.. That’s okay. We can.. We can work through it together.. But please, don’t.. Just don’t cry, mummy said those things because she knows, like a mummy does, that all this, it’s true. We.. I’m not going away. Ever. Okay?” Brittany held her gaze as she lent in, pressing a deep kiss to Santana’s lips, and barely pulling away, whispering, “I’m not crying because I’m upset okay. I promise. I’m crying because.. It’ll sound stupid and I’m sorry.. But it’s because I kinda didn’t realise how much you care about that stuff, like what my mummy said.. It made me so happy.. I just.. It really did. To know you hold what my mummy thinks so highly..” Brittany was sure she’d just rambled and said a lot of things that probably didn’t even make any sense. She then felt Santana’s arms wrap tightly around her, as both girls laid down gently, holding each other tightly.
The girls laid there, in silence, just holding each other close, and gently stroking each others arms and sides, when Brittany spoke up, softly asking, “Hey.. Do you think.. We maybe could.. I don’t know.. Have a dinner… With both our parents.. And talk to them? They might.. I don’t know.. Appreciate it.. I can tell mummy would like it if I spoke to her a bit more about this even if she doesn’t say it.. And if we do it together, maybe it’ll be a bit easier, and like.. I don’t know..” Brittany quietly drifted off, not even really sure of what she’d said or how to finish it, and nestled her head on Santana’s chest even further.
Santana listened, even though her mind was still a mess, she attempted to make sense of Brittany’s words; and in a weird way, like most things Brittany says to Santana, they did make sense. She’s scared too? But… B, you’re perfect… Santana barely noticed the deep kiss Brittany pressed to her lips. Then she began speaking about her mum, and Santana’s body tensed up. That shouldn’t make you happy… it makes me sound like a freaking lunatic. Fuck. I love you. Santana wrapped her arms around Brittany and laid them down slowly together, holding on to eachother. The girls lay like that for a while, in the other;s embrace while softly stroking each others arms. A dinner? With our parents? Shit, B… I guess together it’ll be okay… Santana stayed silent, lost in her thoughts as she felt Brittany nuzzle against her chest.
Santana cleared her throat when she felt her face finally dry from tears, and attempted to speak. “B… you have nothing to be scared about, understand me? You are perfect, you could never ever say or do anything wrong…” Santana felt her throat lock up, but was determined to continue. Clearing her throat, she tried to speak again. “And yeah… I do care alot about that stuff. I know it seems silly or whatever but… I can’t help it. You’re like… i don’t know, perfect doesn’t even cover it. How someone as close to you as your freaking mother can trust me just… yeah, freaking terrifies me. But I have you, and you keep me… sane, I guess. We’ll be okay…” Her voice trailed off, lost again in the mess of her thoughts, wishing she wasn’t so afraid of everything. She kept her eyes up at the sky, not knowing how Brittany was responding to her words, other than just feeling her breath against her chest, which calmed her down. “A dinner with our parents sounds great. Creepy, but great. They’d like it. We can do it this weekend sometime I guess, or friday night maybe. I don’t know, we’ll work something out.” Santana now allowed herself to glance downwards, meeting Brittany’s loving gaze looking up at her. Santana gently pried Brittany away, bringing them both to sit up, holding both of her hands and looking into her eyes. “I love you, Britt. I know with you, we can get through all of this.” Brittany smiled, and leant in for a small kiss, which Santana then smiled into aswell. They heard the bell ring, and groaned in unision. “Come on babe, should go get to class. What do we even have now? My memories all crazy again…” Santana stood up and held out her hand for Brittany, which she took and lifted her, embracing her in a tight hug. I’ll never leave you. Ever.

Okay can I talk about this for a sec? No? Tough, because I’m gonna go ahead and do it anyway. Because this little exchange was so indicative of their relationship that I wanted to die.
We already know that without the armor, Tony sees himself as nothing. “Iron Man yes, Tony Stark not recommended”, right? There’s more than a touch of bitterness when he throws that exchange back at Coulson in his first scene. We know about his issues with his father, we know about his drinking, we know that he watched a man sacrifice his life in a cave in the Middle East so that he, Tony, could live.
Steve doesn’t. And yet almost by accident, he finds Tony’s weak spot, sticks in a knife, and twists. Steve’s trying to shame him, trying to hold Tony accountable for actions that he, as a soldier, sees as reckless and irrresponsible— he’s already furious with Tony for needling Banner, which potentially endangered the lives of everyone on the ship (He can’t know, of course, that Tony recognises something in Banner, a control on his inner demons that he can only envy; Tony knows what it’s like to have a monster inside of him that he can barely contain) and Tony’s devil-may-care attitude is the final straw. Steve sees right through Tony in a way few people do; but not deep enough, no, because if he could fathom just how deep Tony’s scars go (and if he wasn’t being influenced by Loki’s sceptre, just behind him) he wouldn’t have said those things.
Because hey, Steve is lashing out here. You saw him in the gym; all that coiled rage, the flashbacks, the way he destroyed that punching bag. Steve’s in as much pain as Tony right now. Not that anyone’s interested. They just want him to put on the suit and be glad they won the war. Tony’s comments earlier about Steve being “not of use” made their mark. Steve already feels outdated and useless. Tony represents everything Steve doesn’t understand about the new century, everything he hates; he’s an unreliable jumble of technology, ego and pop culture references Steve doesn’t understand. Oh, and Tony used to make weapons. Big weapons. How d’you think Steve felt when someone filled him in on the advances in warfare that happened while he was asleep?
And Tony? He’s having his insecurities thrown back at him by a living legend, by the man his father admired above all others; a man Howard Stark spent years digging through the ice for when he should have been caring for his son. Steve is talking, but I’m pretty sure Tony’s hearing his father.
“The only thing you fight for is yourself. You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play.”
Half of that sentence is true. Tony does fight for himself; he fights to redeem himself every day, not because of the body count his weapons have amassed (Natasha’s not the only one with red in her ledger) but because he doesn’t see himself as worthy of anything. Of the suit, of the few friends he has, of his money, of his life. He fights every day to prove to himself that he deserves to exist. And that is why he would make the sacrifice play. In a heartbeat. If he doesn’t deserve to be here, it’s only right he die for someone who does. And Steve just told him “yeah, you’re right, you don’t deserve to be here. I know guys worth ten of you, and they’re dead, and you’re alive.”
It’s awful, really, how much these two men are capable of hurting each other.
And yet. Underneath the barbs and the anger and the hurt, this exchange shows exactly why they work so well together.
“…to lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you.”
“I think I would just cut the wire.”
“Always a way out.”
That. That right there. Tony is a master at thinking on his feet, at improvisation, at taking risks that tend to pay off. He’s brilliant, but volatile. And Steve is strategic, methodical, noble almost to a fault. Tony could come up with solutions Steve would never even dream of, and vice versa; when Tony spends time hacking into SHIELD’s servers, Steve investigates on foot. They are exact opposites, in personality and skill, and that’s why they’re the unofficial leaders of the Avengers. The differences that drive them apart in this scene are what’s going to make them unstoppable later on. Because they’re not half as good at anything as when they’re doing it next to each other.

Brittany was thankful class went by fast, because eventhough the sneaky smiles were sweet, she just wanted to properly say hello to her girl, and tell her about the conversation she’d had with her mum the previous evening. And about the note of course. Finally the bell rang, and the pair went to their lockers, then headed out to the secluded tree, walking in comfortable silence. Brittany ran her fingers up Santana’s arms as her hands gripped at Brittany’s waist, and smiled into the soft kiss she received. As Santana pulled away, Brittany kept smiling, and lightly pecked her girlfriends cheek. The pair sat down, and picked at their snacks. “I missed you too,” Brittany looked up, smiling at Santana. Then she got asked about the thing she wanted to tell Santana. Brittany smiled and nodded, “Well, firstly, I went to bed last night, and found a note under my pillow,” she said cheekily, “Thank-you,” Brittany reached over, lifting one of Santana’s hands to her face, kissing it softly, “It was so so sweet, and beautiful.” Letting go of Santana’s hand, Brittany picked again at her snack, “But that’s not all I needed to tell you San..” Brittany looked up, biting her lip nervously as Santana asked her what was wrong.
No secrets, remember. “Well, so after mummy and Emma got home last night, and Emma had gone to bed, I was sitting on the couch with mummy, having a hot drink and watching some old crappy movie..” Brittany looked down, avoiding eye contact with Santana, “And then she.. Well, she asked me where the ring on my finger had come from.. I’d.. I’d forgotten to put it on my necklace.. And umm. So I told her that you had gotten it for me.. I couldn’t lie to her..” Brittany began playing with the grass infront of her, out of nerves, “And then she started going on about dresses and a reception venue and all this stuff and I freaked out and told her no it wasn’t that sort of ring.. She knew that, she was joking she said.. But umm yeah then she asked what sort of ring it was.. And I told her it was a promise ring.. That’s we’d promised ourselves to each other.. And mummy said.. She said that she knew you’d never break the promise, and that she trusted you so much..” Brittany looked up to Santana’s eyes, not really taking in any expressions her girl had, “And that she was glad you’d be there when she wasn’t to look out for me and stuff. She thought it was such a beautiful idea and didn’t seem mad or anything, but really happy..” Brittany forged a shy smile, then went back to looking down at the ground, and nervously picking at her food.
Brittany sighed, “I.. I’m sorry.. I didn’t know if we were telling our parents about it or not, but I couldn’t.. I couldn’t lie to her and say nothing.. I.. I’m sorry..”
Santana listened, and smiled when Brittany mentioned finding her note. She was going to say how she had found hers also, but decided not to, and instead continue listening to what Brittany was saying. Santana was getting slightly nervous now, and was trying to keep her breathing steady. The ring… okay… Santana watched as Brittany was the one getting nervous now, playing with the grass in front of her. Breathe, Lopez. Wait. She joked… okay WAIT. Your mother… said I’d never break the promise? Of course I won’t but… she said that… Santana was now intent on keeping her expression unreadable, even to Brittany. She wasn’t even sure what she was feeling, but there was a terrible sinking feeling in her chest that she couldn’t shake off. She could see that Brittany was still nervous, even with her shy smile. When Brittany apologised, Santana could only muster enough strength to nod, and reach out slowly to tenderly stroke Brittany’s hand for a moment, before pulling away. The girls sat in silence for a moment, each trying to collect their thoughts. Stop. Just. Stop thinking, at least speak. Say something, it’s Brittany, she can’t always read your damn mind… fuck. “Well…” Santana coughed a little, not realising her throat was now painfully dry. “I… I get that you couldn’t lie to her… th-that’s okay, Brit, really. It’s fine. It’s scary as fuck -” Santana shook her head as she saw Brittany’s body stiffen, she knew that Brittany still hated it when she swore, but sometimes the words just slipped out. “Sorry. It’s scary, yeah, but it’s okay. Just. I mean..” Santana was thinking of ways to put her thoughts in to words without sounding like a horrible person, but she couldn’t. She decided she just had to say it; no secrets.
“I love you, B, more than I’ve ever loved anyone. I’m never going to stop. Just… your mum, of all people, saying that? Saying she trusts me… I don’t know how to deal with that. She’s your mother, and she… trusts your life with me, I know I’m nothing without you and of course I will always protect you and keep you safe… I… if I screw up, knowing it would break her trust too, I can’t, I don’t know how I can do this, B i’m scared, okay? I’m fucking scared and just-” Santana’s voice broke as her breath caught in her throat, unable to form any more words. Her eyes darted up to see Brittany’s eyes glue to the floor, tears welling up. Santana didn’t know why the girl was crying, whether she was upset or mad or hurt at what Santana had said, all she knew was that she had made the love of her life cry. Fucking good one, Lopez. Knew I’d fucking hurt her. Santana felt her arms begin to shake, body heat up and she could not have Snixx come out, not now. Not fucking now. Squeezing her eyes shut, she forced herself to take deep breaths until she could think properly. Santana opened her eyes and reached out to Brittany, lifting her face up to reach her gaze. She couldn’t quite tell what the girl’s expression was, but it broke her heart knowing she was mostly to blame for the small tears. She leant in and kissed them away, one by one, before embracing Brittany in a tight hug, placing kisses over her cheek and neck before again pulling away to look into her eyes. “Brittany. I’m sorry. I… I didn’t mean it to… make you sad… I hate myself for upsetting you. I love you so much, so much B. I can’t stand the thought of hurting you. Just… knowing that your mum said those things about me? Does she even know how much of a screw up I am? If I… if i hurt you, which I just have… she’s going to hate me. She trusts me… I don’t understand how, or why, I love your mum so much too and I just… it’s still hard, I’m still… terrified of hurting you… even now, please B please stop crying…” Santana sniffed a little, just as Brittany reached up and wiped Santana’s tears away, shocking her a little not realising she had been silently crying also.
The girls sat there for a little while, gazing into each other’s eyes, trying to figure out what the other was feeling. Santana felt helpless, especially seeing Brittany cry, and knowing she couldn’t just go up to the person that made her cry and tell them to back off before she hit them so hard that their parents felt it. It was her that made her cry; whether out of sadness, hurt, confusion… it was her. She couldn’t take it. “Say something, B. Please…”
That night, Brittany had the best sleep she’d had in a while. She felt so happy. But this happiness caused her to sleep through her alarm, and when she awoke, she found that she was supposed to be at school in ten minutes. Craaaap. Brittany flew out of bed, grabbing her phone and quickly texting Santana ‘Hey gorgeous, I reeeeeeally overslept, had such amazing dreams tho, of a certain someone, so it was totally worth it :) But yeah save me a seat in class, and make up some excuse if the teacher asks why I’m late? <3 Britts xoxoxoxoxo’ Once the message sent, Brittany ran around, grabbing things she needed for school and Santana’s that night, and jamming them in her bags. Then she got dressed and went into the bathroom to fix her hair and makeup. She finished beautifying herself and then looked down and saw the ring, remembering she should put it on her necklace, to avoid anyone asking awkward questions. Once that was done, she ran back into her room, and grabbed her bags, quickly running into the kitchen to leave a note for her mum, to remind her she was going to be at Santana’s that night, then flew out the front door.
Brittany ran the whole way to school, which she was thankful it wasn’t too far from home. But far enough to make her a little exhausted. Putting her bags in her locker, Brittany headed to class, and walked into the room, “Sorry I’m late,” she apologised to the teacher. He nodded, telling her Santana had explained her lateness, and Brittany took a seat. “Hey,” she smiled and whispered, “Did I miss much? And is it true next period is cancelled? I heard some people talking at their lockers while I ran to mine. Extra long recess. Can we sit under the big old tree? I wanna tell you something..” Brittany without really realising, looked away from Santana and stared at her notebook. Santana shot her a curious look, bordering on worried, and whispered back, asking what was wrong. “Nothing bad S, I promise.. I just need to tell you something okay?” Brittany looked up and smiled, hoping her guilt about her mum knowing about the ring wasn’t showing through. She hated not being able to say something then and there.
Santana groaned as usual when her alarm went off, and unwillingly rolled over to turn it off. She hopped out of bed and got dressed, remembering her dream involved Brittany which made her smile, even at such an ungodly hour. She headed downstairs to make her morning coffee and found a note on the kitchen bench, picking up she read: “Sweetheart, had to leave earlier this morning. We’ll see you sometime tomorrow, you girls have fun tonight! There’s plenty of food and snacks for you all, try not to mess the place up too much! Love you darling xx” Santana smiled at her mum’s writing, knowing it was from her father too. It was sweet when she left her notes. Santana finished her coffee and fixed up her hair and make up and headed out the door, locking it behind her. As she was walking to school, she grabbed out her phone and went to message Brittany, when she saw that her girlfriend had already texted her. Reading it, Santana smirked to herself. Cutie. Typing a quick reply back, “No problem babe. Glad you had a good sleep. See you soon beautiful. -San xxxx”
Santana walked through the doors to school, knowing that Brittany would be late but still looking out for her at their lockers. She got her books she needed for the next classes, when she heard the obvious annoying voice of Rachel Berry call out her name. What the hell does she want? Turning around with her bitch face in full tact, Santana merely raised an eyebrow at Berry’s smiling face until she spoke. “Um, hi Santana. Just letting you know, next class got cancelled, so we all get a long recess, due to me having to speak to some of the teachers about an important upcoming event that I’m going to perform at, and -” Santana had no time to hear anymore, and really couldn’t be bothered with Berry this early in the morning. She heard all she had to, so she nodded, turned her back on Rachel and put the books she wouldn’t be needing away. When she was sure Rachel was gone, Santana turned around still rolling her eyes and walked off to class, wishing Brittany was with her already. Hurry up B, without you I’ve already gotten cornered by Hobbit… Santana walked in to class and to their teacher, quickly explaining Brittany’s absence. “Britts wasn’t feeling too well this morning, so she’ll be a little late to class. That cool?” It was the first thing she thought of, and knew it would be a fine excuse. The teacher nodded, so she took a seat at the back, saving one for Brittany next to her.
Finally after a few minutes, she looked up and saw Brittany enter the room, speaking briefly to the teacher before taking a seat next to her. Finally… They smiled to each other and said hi, when all Santana wanted to really do was kiss her girlfriend hello. “Yeah, extra long recess. Hobbit told me.” Wait, tell me something? That doesn’t sound good… Santana looked up at Brittany, slightly worried, whispering back, “What’s up? Is everything okay?” She hated that her mind still went to the worst places, but it’s just how she was. Nothing bad? Okay… Seeing Brittany smile calmed her down a little, so she nodded and smiled back, wishing the class would go by fast. Thankfully it did, as the girls passed the time sneaking in smiles to each other, both clearly wanting to at least kiss each other hello, but they could wait until their extra long recess underneath the secluded tree for that. The bell rang, and the girls stood up and linked pinkies, heading out to their lockers. Santana was eager to properly say hello to Brittany still, and even more curious as to what she had to tell her, so the girls walked in silence getting their books and snacks and headed straight over to the tree down the end of the school where no one else was. When they were finally there, Santana quickly glanced around, making sure no one was in sight, and grabbed Brittany around the waist and pulled her in for a soft kiss on the lips. Pulling away slowly and smiling, Santana looked up, whispering a small “Hey…” as she did so. Brittany smiled back, giving Santana a small peck on the cheek. They sat down next to each other and began to take out their snacks and pick at them. “I missed you last night.” Santana began. A night away from Brittany, heck, even an hour away from the girl was far too much for Santana. “So, what’d you want to tell me?”
Santana arrived home, locking the door behind her and called out to see if her parents were home. “Yo, anyone home?” “In the kitchen!” Her mum answered back. “Just gonna head up and put my stuff away!” Santana headed upstairs and dropped her bags to the floor, changing quickly into her trackpants and singlet. She was exhausted, but still felt as though she should spend some time with her mother, so she skipped back downstairs into the kitchen. “How was your day Ma?” Santana asked, as she hugged her mother hello. She hugged her back and placed a kiss on her cheek. “Oh, it was fine. Finished up some work and cleaned the house when I got home. Your father won’t be home until late again, did you want to watch a movie with me?” Santana smiled, silently thinking to herself that her mother hardly ever asked to watch a movie with her, so she nodded enthusiastically - even though she was extremely tired, laying on the couch with her mum for a little bit couldn’t hurt. Santana fixed them up some hot drinks as her mother went to put in a movie, and when Santana sat back down with her mother, she saw that the television was already playing some old movie that her mother loved. “Santana… i wanted to ask you something…” Santana’s eyes snapped upwards, suddenly afraid of what was to come. She held her gaze to her mother’s, urging her to continue. “You and Brittany… have you told your friends yet? I’ve just been thinking about it so much lately, thinking of you at school and what if people are cruel to you, I couldn’t stand it thinking I haven’t helped enough -“
Before she could finish speaking, Santana pulled her mother in for a hug, hoping it would calm her down. What… I didn’t expect this… oh God, don’t dare think anything’s your fault Mum… I know I haven’t spoken much about it though… When Santana had pulled away and her mother seemed to have calmed down, she forced herself to smile and look into her eyes. “Mum… you’ve helped more than you could ever know. I know I haven’t spoken to you much about it, and I’m sorry for that… it’s just… things have been a little crazy. In a good way, I mean.” She quickly added the last bit, seeing the worry begin to grow in her mother’s eyes. Santana debated in her mind whether or not to tell her about the promise ring… she knew her mother would want to know, but couldn’t bring herself to tell her. Not yet, at least. “And no… we haven’t told anyone yet. Well, Miss H knows, and she’s helping us. Britt and Quinn are staying over tomorrow night, and we’re gonna tell her then. We know she’ll be cool with it, she’s Q, but she’d appreciate hearing it from us…” Santana noticed her mother’s eyes begin to soften at this, clearly happier now. “Okay sweetheart… your father and I just worry about you still, even though you’re nearly all grown up. We’ll both be out all tomorrow night too, so you girls can have the house to yourselves. I’m glad to know things are fine, darling… you’d let me know if thing’s got… bad, wouldn’t you?” Santana tried to figure out what had made her mother say this, but she couldn’t read her at all. She had definitely learnt from the best. “Of course I would, mum. Promise.”
Santana then rested her head on her mother’s shoulders as they both watched the rest of the movie. They sat in silence, both laughing at the comedic parts of the film, and sipping on their drinks until the credits began to roll. Santana sat up and yawned, her exhaustion taking over. She hugged her mum closely, placing a kiss on her cheek. “I’m gonna head up to bed. I’ll see you whenever if you leave tomorrow before I wake up. Love you, mum.” “Love you too, sweetheart. Get some rest tonight.” Santana nodded, and headed up to her room, closing the door behind her. She got ready for bed, and gratefully lay down, pulling the covers over her. That was weird. Maybe she is just worried… I mean, I know I haven’t really spoken to her or dad much about it lately… I probably should more. It’s still hard though, but they deserve for me to at least try…
Santana sat up and reached over for her alarm clock, setting it to a time that was far too early for her liking. As she placed it back down, she noticed a piece of paper sticking out from underneath her camera. Lifting it up, she unfolded it and read it, a smile instantly spreading over her face. Oh, B. How long has this been here? Of course I’ll always stand by you, silly. I wonder if you found the note I left you, didn’t even know you’d left me one… Folding it back up and placing it back on her desk, Santana decided to tell Brittany the next day at school that she’d found it. She fell asleep almost instantly, the smile caused by her perfect girlfriend still on her face, as she drifted off to sleep.
Brittany was content, touching the caramel skin, which was so soft, and making sure that her girl felt better. Brittany let out a giggle when Santana moaned, knowing that the girl was getting worked up, and this made Brittany’s insides tingle a little. As much as Brittany wanted to continue this and more and head upstairs, she was also aware that Santana needed to go soon (much to her disappointment) and that her mum and Emma could walk in at any minute. Part of Brittany didn’t care about any of that, but part of her knew life would get even harder (even if only because of her mum’s awful jokes that she knew would come about. Also, she didn’t really want her mum to know just how.. Healthy, their sex life really was..) if they didn’t stop now. Brittany slowed down the pace of her massage, and brought her legs from around Santana. Sitting beside her girlfriend, she place a kiss on her cheek, a mischievous and cheeky look in her eyes. Brittany’s heart stopped for just a moment when Santana lent in, kissing her roughly and nibbling at her bottom lip, You know I love that.. Mmm.
Brittany couldn’t help but smirk at Santana’s comment, “And where do you think I learnt to be so evil from? The best teacher there is,” she winked at Santana, and both girls erupted into a fit of giggles. From then on, until Santana had to go, the pair sat on the couch, giggling even more, and Santana tried her best to crack Brittany, “No babe,” she said, giggling as Santana tickled Brittany in all the right places, “It’s a surprise. You wouldn’t tell me about last night! It’s only fair,” the blonde girl pouted, and Santana sighed in defeat. Brittany knew it would be mulling over in the girls mind though. “So, I’ll come to yours after school tomorrow? And Q’s meeting us there right? After she does whatever she has to do? I’ll just need clothes right? Nothing else you want me to bring?” Brittany asked, snuggling right up to Santana, not wanting to let her go just yet, even though it was almost time for her to leave.
Santana burst into a fit of giggles with Brittany when she made that statement, both girls agreeing and finding it too humorous to contain themselves. The girls continued to giggle together, as Santana kept trying to make Brittany tell her what she had planned, with the best way she knew possible - tickling her in all the right places. Plus, it was an added bonus that she got to make the love of her life laugh so much, she was far too beautiful for words. Fine, I guess you’re right… I surprised you so it’s only fair… ugh, now I won’t stop thinking about it, dammit B… Santana sighed, accepting that Brittany wasn’t going to crack, no matter how much she tried. “Yep. Q will come over a little later yeah. I can’t wait! Bring whatever you want, I’m sure we’ll all have fun anyway. I’ve got plenty of our old favourite movies and everything for later, and we can stock up on candy after school on the way home.” Brittany nodded, snuggled up to Santana. Santana sighed happily, not wanting to leave just yet but knowing she should get home soon, even though she wasn’t sure if her parents would be home yet or not.
Santana felt her phone vibrate, and pulled it out to see she had a new text message from her mum. She quickly read it and sighed this time in defeat. “It’s mum. She asked when I’ll be home, which is her way of asking me to come home now…” She looked up to see Brittany look a little sad now, so she quickly placed a kiss on her lips, before standing up. Brittany went to stand with her, but Santana pointed to her, motioning for her to stay put. “Wait here, I’ll run up and grab my stuff.” Brittany nodded, and Santana skipped up the stairs, grabbing her bags. Once she had everything, her eyes lingered on Brittany’s bed. She thought back to the previous night, which seemed like so long ago now… everything had gone so perfect. Even the day they had just had, had been perfect. Sure, there were a few little mishaps, Damn you Snix. One day you’ll be gone, ugh… but everything had worked out fine, just like it always would with Brittany. Smiling to herself, Santana headed back downstairs to find Brittany waiting at the door. She walked over to her, eyes locked together until the girls were embraced in each others arms tightly. They both pulled away, and Brittany held the door open for Santana as she stepped outside and turned back around to face Brittany. Even though they would see eachother in the morning at school, every goodbye was hard for Santana, and she could tell by the look in Brittany’s eyes that she felt the same. The girls lent in at the same time and pressed their lips together lovingly, lingering in the moment. Santana pulled away and looked up at Brittany, smiling. “I love you so much. I’ll see you tomorrow, babe.” Brittany said her goodbyes and kissed Santana a last time on the cheek, then stepped back and lingered in the doorway as Santana turned and began walking. As she reached the end of the footpath from Brittany’s front door, she turned around to find Brittany still watching her, waving goodbye. Santana waved back, smiling at how sweet Brittany looked, and continued walking home, thoughts filled with how lucky she was to have the most perfect girl in the universe to call her own.
After an undetermined time had passed where the girls shared more cuddles and soft kisses, Santana asked Brittany if she remembered what Tuesday was. Tuesday? We have school. And it’s not anyone’s birthday.. And it’s not like a holiday day or anything.. Brittany scrunched up her face, trying her hardest to think what Tuesday could possibly be.. A song, for me? And Miss H is going to help. You are too beautiful. You really are.. Brittany couldn’t help but giggle a little, “Of course I’ll like it. You could sing the alphabet and I would love it!” Brittany nodded when Santana mentioned the next night with Quinn. If Brittany was honest, she missed their Unholy Trinity hangouts. And she missed Quinn. There were things she felt like she could go to Quinn about, that although she trusted Santana 110%, Quinn generally had a more level headed approach to things, and spoke them out in a different manner. And Brittany liked that about Quinn. Brittany was sure Santana knew she also missed Quinn, just not how much she really did. Quinn helped Brittany feel more like an adult. Not that Santana didn’t, but it was just.. Different with Quinn. And then the three of them together, it felt like the world was at their feet. Not that Brittany was unhappy by any means, but she really just missed their tight-knit group and their play dates.
When Santana sat the pair up, Brittany kissed her cheek and smiled, because she had kept their bodies rather close. Then Brittany noticed Santana roll her shoulders a little, and a slight pained look on her face. “Are you okay?” Santana asked her what did she mean, of course she was, that Brittany was there with her and things were more than ok. “No, your shoulder, what’s up S, are you hurt?” Santana tried to shrug it off, explaining she sometimes got a little pain inbetween her shoulder blades. You’re not okay, that’s not okay. I’m gonna.. Hey, I could help make her feel better and give her a preview.. Yeah.. Brittany must have smirked, because now it was Santana asking what was up.
Brittany didn’t say a word as she wormed her way behind Santana, so she was now sitting behind her girlfriend, legs either side of the girl. Santana opened her mouth, and started to ask what Brittany was up to when Brittany slid off the short cut denim jacket, and then began to massage Santana’s shoulders, focusing on the spot inbetween them. Brittany smirked to herself as Santana made an appreciative noise, so she kept it going, and whispered playfully into the girls ear, “Glad you like the preview of what you’re getting on Saturday.”
Santana’s face scrunched up a little when Brittany asked if she was okay, why wouldn’t she be? “Of course I’m okay! You’re with me, everything’s perfect.” Oh, my shoulder? It’s probably nothing. Santana shrugged, hoping to brush past the issue, it didn’t really concern her and she didn’t really like the thought of wasting sweet lady kisses with silly talk of her back pains. “It’s nothing B, just between my shoulder blades randomly ache. Don’t worry about it.” Santana saw Brittany smirk after she said this, and now she was the one wondering if she was alright. Curiosity hit her, and she had to ask, “What’s up with you?” Santana watched as Brittany snuck behind her, placing each of her legs on either side of Santana. “What are you up to?” Santana’s question was answered as she felt Brittany’s expert fingers massage slowly right on the spot where Santana’s back was aching. It felt so good, she couldn’t help but let a low purring noise of contentment escape her lips, just short of a moan. Her body erupted in goosebumps as she felt Brittany’s hot breath on her ear, whispering to her. Preview? Holy sweet hell… Santana didn’t realise her eyes had been closed when they flew open as Brittany pressed slightly harder, with just the right amount of pressure. Santana wanted to turn around and kiss her so badly, but she couldn’t stand the thought of Brittany’s hands stopping what they were doing, and if this was a preview for what was to come on Saturday, she needed Saturday to be here now. Dammit B, your hands are just… fuck… Santana must’ve let out a small moan again, because she heard Brittany giggle mischievously before kissing the back of her neck.
Santana’s whole body shivered at the touch, now aware that if Brittany didn’t stop soon then she would grab her and drag her upstairs to the bedroom, not even caring that she had to be home soon or not knowing when Brittany’s mum and sister would be home… The way Brittany’s hands massaged her back felt like heaven, the pain was immediately gone and all she felt was contentment and pleasure at the work of her girlfriends hands. Santana thought Brittany must’ve read her mind earlier, as she began to slow down the pace of her massage until she brought her legs back around and sat comfortably next to Santana, before placing a soft kiss on her cheek. Santana turned and looked into her eyes, seeing that mischievous glint again, now aware that Brittany was having similar thoughts; although, she was smart enough to stop before it had gotten too much, which was probably a wise choice. Santana lent in and kissed Brittany roughly, nibbling her bottom lip just the way she liked it, before pulling away; satisfied that she had given back some of what Brittany had just given her. “I have to wait till Saturday for more of that? You’re evil, B. But I can’t wait… you’re too perfect, babe.” Santana winked at Brittany as she smirked again, and Santana couldn’t stop wondering now what exactly Brittany had planned for the weekend. If that was just a preview, Saturday was definitely going to be an amazing night.
Brittany was relieved at Santana agreeing that they could tell Quinn the next night about them, and giggled after Santana said Quinn would talk some sense into her, and rolled her eyes a little. While they ate dinner, the pair talked about their excitement for an Unholy Trinity night, and new routines for the Cheerios and lame ass assignments. Brittany held Santana’s gaze, debating whether to let her help clean up. But Santana clearly wasn’t backing down, so Brittany smiled, nodding to say she could help. The pair stood up, taking their dishes to the sink and rinsing them off, laughing along the way. After everything looked more presentable, Brittany smiled as she felt Santana’s hands at her waist, and lips on her neck. Of course I do. You know that already.. Brittany giggled, taking hold of Santana’s hand, and spinning around, then leading them to the couch. Each girl laid on their side, facing the other.
Brittany was just taking it all in, Santana’s beauty, when her lips were met with a soft and passionate kiss, which she didn’t say no to one iota. Brittany felt Santana’s hand reach up into her hair, and pull from the kiss. Brittany barely heard what Santana whispered, but nonetheless, she heard it. Nuzzling up to her lover’s neck, Brittany emitted a low purring sound, 100% content at that moment, embraced in one of the places she felt most at home in, and safest. If everyday had some of this in it, being embraced by the love of her life, Brittany knew everything would be amazing. Her face still nuzzled in Santana’s neck, Brittany left soft kisses on the skin, causing Santana to hum softly. Brittany smiled, a hand finding one of Santana’s, grasping it as she kept pressing kisses to the dark skin, trailing down to Santana’s chest, and stopping over her heart, where she pressed the most loving kiss she had right there. Then, resting her head right by Santana’s, eyes gazing into one anothers, she whispered, “You are beautiful. All of you.. Everything about you.. Just beautiful..”
Santana smiled as Brittany’s hand found her own and grasped on tightly, as she pressed soft kisses over her skin, finally resting her head beside Santana’s. She smiled again as Brittany called her beautiful, thinking to herself that no one even came close to Brittany’s beauty. The girls lay there together for a while, content in each others arms and stealing soft kisses here and there. Santana then remembered they had Glee club on Tuesday, and it was going to be the day she sang the song she had chosen for Brittany, with the help of Miss Holiday. “Hey Britt, remember what tuesday is?” she asked, as Brittany knotted her eyebrows together slightly, trying to remember. Santana giggled, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. She always looked so cute when she was confused. “I’m singing a song to you. With Miss H to help me out. I hope you like it…” Brittany was the one to giggle now, telling Santana that of course she would like it. Santana smiled, feeling slightly nervous about performing a song for Brittany in front of the whole Glee club, but was adamant to do so - if everyone else could sing to someone, why couldn’t she? And if anyone dared cross her, she knew she could easily put them in their place. “Good. Tomorrow with Q will be good too, man I’ve missed her.” Brittany agreed, both girls clearly excited for their Unholy Trinity sleep-over. It had been ages since the three of them had hung out properly, and Santana missed Quinn more than she let on. She knew that Brittany was aware of how much she missed her, but not to the true extent. Quinn had always been the one Santana could turn to, when things got too… deep, to speak to Brittany about. Of course Santana never lied to Brittany, but with Quinn, it was different. She seemed to have this kind of wisdom that Santana clung to when things got bad, and Quinn always knew how to make Santana see things more clearly; she kept her grounded most of the time. Lately, Santana had really needed her, even with Brittany who fulfilled her life with everything she could ever have dreamed of… but without the way things used to be with Quinn, something seemed to be missing. Santana couldn’t wait to have it back; to have the Unholy Trinity back in full force.
After a little while of laying together still, Santana grabbed her phone from her pocket checking the time, realising she should head home in an hour or so, which still gave the girls time to be together, so she smiled to herself. Santana adjusted her’s and Brittany’s bodies to sit up with their backs against the couch, but still as close to each other as possible. Brittany kissed Santana’s cheek and nuzzled into her neck, making Santana smile yet again at how perfect her girlfriend was. Santana then felt a small pain in between her shoulder blades, which happened occasionally and she never thought too much of it. She subconsciously rolled her shoulders a little, hoping to relieve the pain. She looked over to see Brittany looking concerned, but Santana was confused as to what it could be about. “What’s up?”
